Giving dog complete free roam of the apartment...good idea...bad idea?

[I love my little Girl]

Okay my Jack Russell Terrier mix has pretty much free roam on my bedroom. We started out crating her as a puppy, now at almost age 2, we started gated in her my closet (the crate was in the closet door is always when the dogs are in there, we have a small apartment so we put the crates where there was room) and now after a few weeks of that, she has the whole bedroom.

She never causes trouble, gets into anything, and never makes any noise when we are gone. (Our poodle however is still crated he isn't ready)

Now my husband wants to give her free roam of the apartment, and I think that would be great BUT I worry because our maintence crew never informs us when they are going to be doing routine maintence, such has filter changes and light bulb changes (they come in every few months and make necissary changes and leave us a form for us to turn in about anything else that might need done.

But again they come pretty much without warning and if we aren't here I don't want my Terrier getting loose or worse seeing him as an intruder.

So is it best to just keep her gated in the bedroom for now?

Maybe consider giving her free roam once we are in our house? (That way we will be the only ones coming and going)

What are your thoughts.

My biggest fear is her seeing the maintenece man as an intruder or her running off because we didn't know to gate her that day?
