can you give a dog benadryl for itching?

My little dog is chewing her right leg till it raw, we use frontline for fleas and ticks, nothing helps,can we use benadryl safely?

hahah my dog takes it almost daily. yeah its ok. we went to the vet and they said to wrap it in a treat and give it to him.
