company while I work 8 hours a day....? would a Rough Collie and a Japanese Spitz be good company for one another since they are both good family dogs? Or would the Japanese Spitz drive the Collie nuts due to his/her higher energy level? I would keep both indoors while I'm gone at work. Also is it safe to keep a much bigger dog with a dog the size of the J.S.? Lastly, since both breeds are "people" dogs who get lonely alone fast, could they really be "enough" for each other during my work hours....or would they make a "demolition team" without me around for 8 hours and I'm likely to come home to a scene like in "Marly and Me?"

It's kind of a toss up. We have two border collies and although they do enjoy each other's company and play together, they also enjoy a lot of face time with us. I don't think the size difference would be a problem since rough collies are not an aggressive breed. I think it depends on the dog whether or not they'll be destructive. When we only had the one BC, we left him inside when we were gone, but I work from home, so we would only be gone at most 4 hours and he was fine. However, we got our puppy and after leaving the both of them home inside even for a short time while we went to the movies, the little one chewed up my boyfriend's hat, magazines, and other stuff I can't remember. So, even though there were two of them, our younger one still got bored and destructive. Now when we leave the house, we keep them outside in our fenced yard and that works out fine. If you absolutely have to leave them indoors, I'd recommend putting them in a smaller room like the kitchen or laundry room, that way if they are destructive it's relegated to a small space, not the whole house. Hope that helps! Good luck!
