View Full Version : Would a dog give its life to protect its owner ?
If you had a dog like a German Shepherd which is supposedly loyal, is it possible it could risk its life to intentionally save its owner?
yes i believe a dog would give his/her life. i have often said my german shepherd mix would give his life just as i would give my life for him. i used to work third shift so i slept during the day. a few minutes after i laid down- we heard the door knob move- my dog jumped on the bed and stood cross ways across me, like he was saying you have to go through me first. so yes i truely believe they would give their life for the person they love.
Recently a pitbull saved an infant from a burning house. The dog was badly burned but is said that she will make a full recovery.
This dog was not trained--she was loyal to her family and was courageous to go back in and get the child.
So yes, dogs will save their owners.

No. A dog WITH the right temperament will protect its owner out of instinct or because it was trained to do so. In the average pet self preservation aka "flight response" will kick in. And unless your dog has been bred and trained for it you should never expect or depend on your dog to save your bacon.
Just as the alarm system on your home will do you know good if you are out at the store, neither will the dog if its not with you.
