skin problems sometimes are the result of food allergies. My little girl gets bumps and chews like there is no tomorrow when she eats food with corn or soy in it..which most cat dry foods have. I found out when I changed both my cats to wet food. My male got a UTI that was persistent and I put them on wet food to help with that. Both problems cleared up in less then two weeks and her coat and skin problem only flares if someone allows her to eat something she shouldn't ( like the cat treats)..

A lemon tonic for the skin can be made at home. Quarter 1 large lemon, and put it in a pot with 8oz of water, bring to a boil and let stay for 10 minutes then allow to cool. Strain and use the liquid as a dab on skin tonic. It will sooth inflamed skin and help repel insects as a side benefit. We've used it on dogs with hot spots for years and its also listed in " Dr. Pritcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Cats & Dogs"

A for taking it to the vet. Frankly, you can try some home treatments such as a diet change or simple skin tonics. But beyond that you should invest the time and money into seeing a vet and getting this settled for your cat once and for all.
