Dog grooming issues....?

My dog has long hair and is terrified of the brush, I can't even get near her with out a freak out.. I need to be able to brush her or she's going to get matted.. what are some tricks to being able to brush her?
I live in a town of less than 2000 people. We have a vet that visits once every two months... So groomers are out...

start out by feeding her a high value treat while brushing her. Start with brushing along her back (head, legs, tail and underside tend to be more sensitive).. she needs to learn to associate the brush with good things.

It's probably best if you take her to a groomer. They are experienced in dealing with reluctant dogs.
