View Full Version : Why are dogs not allowed in restaurants? What exactly is the 'health hazard'?

I've been living in Europe where dogs are welcome almost everywhere - public transportation, shops, and restaurants. These are not just small dogs either. My standard schnauzer came with me everywhere. She curled up under or beside my chair in restaurants and no one was worried that she was there. I can understand if the dog is untrained or unruly, but calm quiet dogs should be allowed. I don't understand what the problem is here in Canada. When people say it's a health or hygiene concern, it doesn't make sense. The dog is on the floor, not on the table. They are not touching the food or the utensils. Please explain the issue to me.
