First off, I live in Ohio. The other day I saw this bird that I've never seen about 6 feet off the side of the road, standing on something small and fuzzy. It was a large raptor of some type. It was a rusty red and white, with a speckled head and neck. It fits with the description of a broad winged hawk closer than any other possibilities I've found so far, except that there was more white than the pictures of the broad wings, and the size. It was very large. Much bigger than a red tail. What could it have been?
Thank you very muchfor that answer. Ilooked up the ferruginous hawk and that sure does look an aweful lot like what I saw, the only thing is, according to what I read, they live out west, not in Ohio. Why would it be this far east?
