How do I train my dogs to ignore distractions like squirrels and people when...

...walking them? My dogs pay attention to me even when I don't have treats...when we're inside and in an environment they're used to. How do I get them to pay attention to me when there are distractions like squirrels and people? They don't listen or obey commands when there is a squirrel in sight! Thanks so much!

My dog also goes nuts when he sees a squirrel and I agree that this is a big problem (even though its natural behavior). I have tried treats and praise to distract him but I have not seen much improvement. However, when it comes to people, one of the best solutions is to take your dogs to local parks where people visit to walk or run or whatever. The more your dogs see different people, the less they will be distracted when they encounter other people. Dog parks work as well. Good luck.
