I panicked, and brought my dog into the tub. I wet over the area, got a plastic baggie, applied some flea and tick shampoo (Groomer's Blend by Synergy Labs), and it let go. It's still alive, inside a wet, drenched in soapy bag inside another sealed plastic baggie. I kept it just in case the vet needed it - I'm worried about Lyme disease, though the tick didn't look bloated. A piece of skin came out, and it's still hanging onto it.
The tick has a silvery ring/spot on it's head, and it has brown on it's back with a darker shades of brown on it. There appears to be tiny ridges on it's rump.
I have a few questions - should I keep the tick to take into the vet which my dog's appointment is a few weeks away, or should I discard it, and is there anything I need to do with Jack (my dog) such as disinfect the area?
I gave him a bath with the same shampoo approx. a week ago. It kept the fleas away, apparently not the ticks. x3
Darn shampoo. O
Answers por favor?
I checked the area where I removed the tick - it's slightly swollen with what seems like a puncture wound where the skin was taken off. He's not showing any signs of pain when I touch it - and it feels like there is something firm inside the wound.
I just found out the vet appointment was rescheduled for tomorrow. I'm going to take the tick in, just in case.
