My dad is very sad, as his pet dog just had to be put down. She had been suffering for a few days, so they just called the vet out to put her out of her misery. She was old, and was getting so sick that she didn't even want to move. Apparently he is devastated, I called my mom earlier and she hasn't seen him in hours, the last time she saw him he was just sitting out by the dog's grave crying his eyes out. I feel horrible and don't want him to feel sad like this. I want to call him later to talk, but I don't know what to say to him. Any ideas? I just want him feeling better about the whole situation, but can't find the right words to say. Thanks for the help.

explain that the dog trusted him her whole life, and she trusted that he would do the right thing with her when she was in that much pain. she probably understands why he had her put to sleep, and she is probably so thankful that he made a decision like that instead of being selfish and keeping her alive to suffer just for his sake. that is the greatest gift he could have given her.. shes probably running around and playing like a little puppy again in Heaven

Get him an adopted puppy at a nearby shelter!
It has to be from a shelter!
If you buy one, it takes meaning from it.
IF you get it at a shelter, tell him that this dog was being abused/beaten/had been thrown out. And now that his dog has passed, she has given a chance for a different dog to have a loving home!

That is what a friend of mine did for me when my doggie died.

That is the BEST thing you can do.

Good luck!
