my friend has 2 and 1 of them looks like a barrel. shes really fat. i mean they free feed her, hardly ever take her for walks, and let her lick their plates when they have done eating

Any breed of dog can be a good breed of dogs, depends on your live style and time you are willing to spend to train and socialise the dog. My uncle has one its uncontrollable but that's his fault he does not spend any time with her she also deaf which is a breed problem. I would suggest to you to research different breeds you like and find one that you think best suites you then find a good breeder. hear is a website that has a test on it to find out what breed dog suited you don't know how accurate it is though.

all dogs are good pets as long as they are raised and socialized properly. However, some dogs are more "active" and enjoy children more than others and require more exercise and attention than others.

Dalmations have a rap for being partial to their PACK or their owners/family. But as long as you socialize them regularly from a young age, they should be fine.

Only if you don't have kids and are not planning to have kids. Dalmations aren't good with kids because they are not super playful, but with adults it is fine.
