13-year old cat just seems to be losing her mind?!?
One of my 3 cats, Taylor (13 y/o female), seems to be just losing it. I adopted her over a year ago. Some days are worse than others, other days she is completely normal. Here's what she does (and none of it is necessarily bad at all); in the past few months or so, she has gotten MUCH more playful. And when she gets playful she gets goofy as heck, it's absolutely HILARIOUS!!! She'll hop around, play-bite if I really egg her on (that's a bad one, I know), pounce the other cats and wrestle hardcore with them. And now she seems to act like she's just glued to me at the hip! Sometimes, if I sit on the couch, she jumps up and just starts hitting me with her paw. And she's constantly doing what I call an old lady meow which is really funky. I know there's a whole lot more stuff that she does weirder now, I just can't remember all of them.
She doesn't do anything bad though, she's actually very well behaved (to an extent). She finds and uses the litterbox perfectly, knows where the food and water are, and even knows when and where she eats. So she isn't losing it in that sense, but she's gotten much goofier with age.
I should probably mention that she does have cerebellar hypoplasia, and I think that she has gotten a little bit more wobbly and funky/goofy in the past 6 months. Nothing that affects her, she's had it her whole life naturally. The other cats in the house are male/female, both around 1.5-2 years or so, unrelated and all are rescues. Since she's been in my possesion, she's gone to the vet regularly and was just there about a month ago. The vet said that she was 100% healthy, and it could just be that she's aging. But she said that it's nothing to worry about, just humor her and keep an eye on her.
I was reading about Feline Cognitive Disorder... Could this possibly be it? I just want to do what's best for Taylor, she's like one of my kids. Definitely the comic relief in my home :P Is there anything I should do to make her more comfy as she ages? Any supplements or special diet or anything? She currently gets both wet and dry senior foods.
