Default How Can I tell if my cat just mated?

Well, yesterday I asked if my cat was in heat because she was acting very loving (as in rolling around, following me, insisting belly rubs) and everyone figured she was. Well, she left the backyard yesterday and stayed away for a few hours, which was a bit abnormal but then again, it does happen. So anyways, last night she returned. I was really excited to see her, and poured her some more cat food along with her favorite saucer full of milk. She ran and began to eat eagerly. I reached out to pet her, and unlike this morning when she was so loving and eager to see me, she now seems like she wants nothing to do with me. She moved away and tried the other end of her bowl. When I tried petting her again, she trotted off and waited until I left. I had to put her back by her food and move away so she could eat. I don't think she can get out of heat that quickly though, in just one day. So, anyone know what might be the cause? I'm thinking she was never in heat yesterday morning, but she did act odd...and now yesterday evening she isn't.

Oh, and last night, I heard awful yowling. Do you think she got into a fight? However, this was after I fed her.

Does she have a whimsical smile on her face while laying on her back smoking a cigarette?

First of all... Don't give your cat milk, it can make her VERY sick!
Second, she is probably pregnant. If you think she was in heat and you heard a terrible 'yelping' sound, odds are, she's pregnant.
If you don't want to waste a trip to the vet's office, wait about 3-5 weeks, if the hair around her nipples begins to recede and they begin to swell, you've got a pregnant kitty.
If she's not pregnant, I would recommend that you get her fixed.

The cat will usually roll around on it's back and groom it's genitals directly.

Hehehe from the age of about 6 months onwards if your cat has not been neutered she will be out mating. My cat Delilah was always a very affectionate cat, so it was hard to tell in terms of behavioural changes, but staying away for long periods of time indicates she's hunting the scent of a male and subsequently getting it on. It usually takes a few tries before she'll get pregnant, and did you know in cats sperm collects before impregnating so a litter can have a different dad for each kitten!! She's out collecting by the sound of it. From conception pregnancy usually lasts about 60 days. and you will only notice a widening on the stomach area and enlargement of nipples about ten days before she pops. If you don't want her to get preggers I'd suggest getting her neutered. If you have good homes lined up go for it. My cat got pregnant and had 6 adorable kittens who made 5 people, and me very happy!

ps yowling = shagging, male cats have spikes on their thingummyjig to try to prevent the female mating with another male as it makes her sore. Unfortunately cats are so randy this rarely works.

This also probably explains why she was reluctant to be touched as she may have been sore. Cat sex is pretty rough so she may be a bit scratched up too.

little minx!

Aqua if the lady has been to the vet and her cat is fully vaccinated she is not at risk of developing FIV or leukemia. I think it is irresponsible to let a cat get pregnant if you are not prepared to be at the beck and call of 6 kittens for ten weeks. I gave mine a room of their own as they are very messy and playful, and get everywhere, I had homes for all of them with good friends and 6 months down the line all of them are happy healthy loved and spoilt rotten. My lovely cat got run over a month ago. I miss her desperately, the only conslation is that I have her lovely kitten who is just like her. I think it's an individuals choice to decide whether or not they are prepared and responsible. My cat loved being a mummy and by the time they went to new homes one at 10 weeks the rest in the weeks following (6 weeks is reccomended) she did not mourn them as they were self sufficient and she was glad just to have one to play with and snuggle. I do understand your concern but do you have personal experience?

Do you want your cat to become pregnant? Please read up on FIV/Felv (feline immunodeficiency virus and feline leukemia). Also read up on pet overpopulation and high euthanasia rates at shelters. Spay your cat immediately. If she mated, you can still catch it on time if you have her spayed now. Don't wait on it. Keep her strictly indoors for her own health and welfare, please.
