Where is a good & responsible place to get a puppy?

If a newspaper or store is not a good place to get a puppy , then where is? I know that a store is not a good place either (from puppy mills). What are the other options? Any places cheaper than a newspaper (but still responsible & good), or is it more expensive. A place for small, non-shedding, not barky or jumpy.

Check out the SPCA or local humane society. There are all kinds of dogs of various breeds and temperaments. You will surely find a friend there and imagine what you would be doing for the dog...

Really, the only places that aren't a good idea are stores and irresponsible breeders.

You can find a reputable breeder via the AKC website. You can check shelters. You can even accept a "puppies free to good home" type of ad, just be prepared that there may be issues with that.
