My cat Luna died last sunday at only 7 years old. I am utterly heartbroken about it and looking to understand how this could have happend.
My Mom was watching a movie, then suddenly the volume shot up in one of the scenes(it wasn't even a thriller, just a comedy) It was just music that suddenly started loudly. The cat was on the table and startled.. my mom heard a loud rumbling and magazines falling then the next second she fell on the floor with a hard bang and layed still and stiff on the floor. My mom knew something was wrong, she ran to her and Luna took one last breath with a weird noise and she was gone.. It looks like a her heart stopped from fright, but from what i read that doesn't happen that often with cats.. Gosh and especially a house cat. The only stories i read is when a cat was being attacked or chased(like in danger). I mean she was already quite frightfull but to die like this is just crazy. She survived 7 years of new years fireworks in the heart of Amsterdam.. and tons of situations where she startled much more suddenly. It is possible she had a underlying heart condition or is something like this crazy bad luck? She was a bit overweight so it might've had something to do with it.. I don't know, i'm just so confused cause i NEVER heard of something like this happening. Has anyone had something (simular) like this happen to their cat maybe? |

She probably had a heart condition.

It's possible there was a heart condition that happened to be fatal at that moment, or If she fell off the table with a hard bang, it may have been something like a head injury from the fall that caused her death. I don't think there's any way for you to know what might have happened unless you have a necropsy done by the vet.

I'm sorry for your loss, I have a dear cat and will be really sad when she's gone.
From the situation you describe, it really does sound like your cat died from fright or surprise. I've never heard of this happening to a cat, but if it can happen (rarely) to humans (which it apparently can), then I don't see why it couldn't happen to a cat too for similar reasons. |
