I adopted a 2 year old english bulldog from a woman back in October. She's an awesome little dog with one problem; she keeps pooping and peeing on the floor. In the beginning I knew she did it because she needed to get a regular schedule going for going outside. But now, when I come home, I find a pile of dog poo in front of the door and sometimes a puddle nearby or somewhere close. The catch? My girlfriend will leave to work about 2 hours or so before I get home from work and she takes her out before she leaves. I take her out before I go to work in the morning, then my girlfriend takes her out, then I take her out 2 or 3 more times before we go to bed; and she goes every time we go out!
Sometimes when we give her a treat she'll pee while she's eating it (we usually give her a treat after going outside and she does her thing). Or when my girlfriend wants to take her out, she'll pee on the couch a little and get scared. My girlfriend is not mean to her (though she does scold her more than I do) but she never wants to go out with her. My girlfriend doesn't want to put the leash on her cuz she doesn't want her to pee on the floor while she's attaching it.
I'm getting to my wit's end, I don't know what to do. We try the treats thing, putting her food dish and water bowl where she did her business, praising her for going outside every time she does... Maybe she's mad that I leave her alone for a few hours everyday? It wasn't this bad a couple weeks ago - we would come home and there wouldn't be anything on the floor. Now it's a daily basis. My girlfriend and I have been fighting lately, could that be it? We're creating a stressful environment for her and she's dealing with it by peeing and pooping every time I leave?
It's driving me crazy!! I'm getting to the point I don't know what to do anymore, and I don't want to just get rid of her, cuz that's not going to help her and I don't want to lose her.
SOMEONE HELP ME!!! D:
