Default My dog's mouth smells like something died in it.?

I have a pomeranian. She'll be 9 in a few months. I've never had her teeth cleaned and I've never brushed them either because she won't sit still. She gets really freaky when you try to groom her in any way. I'm really nervous about having her teeth cleaned at the vet, though I think I'll have to anyway. In the meantime, does anybody know of some sort of dog treat or chews that will help with her breath? It's pretty bad. She's always chewed rawhide stuff since she was a puppy. But time seems to have caught up with her. Anybody have any good advice?

If her breath is that bad, you need to have her checked by the vet.-!-

Get her teeth checked she may need to have some pulled.
My Pug had really bad breath and I thought it was 'cuz he was always eating the "horse apples". Turned out he 9 bad teeth and they all had to be pulled.

There are alot of products at pet stores you can purchase. But, are you feeding your dog good quality dog food, and no table food? The table food will really make them have bad breath and just isn't healthy for them.

Greenies would be your best bet. My pomeranan loves them. You will have to take her to the vet to have teeth cleaned though, I'm glad you already know that. Rahides aren't very good for teeth either! I would stop giving rawhides. Another thing you might want to try is some raw meaty bones, chicken and turkey necks, and other small raw bones. They are great for dogs teeth! I do brush my poms teeth on a regular basis, but I also give him raw meaty bones once a week. He also gets greenies. I'm obsessed with his teeth and worrying about tooth decay! LOL

what are you feeding her?

I noticed that the worse the food the worse the breath.

When my dogs were fed pedigree their breath was pretty bad. I put em on Innova with raw food and it stopped smelling completely!

dogs need their teeth cleaned. I wouldn't recommend treats since too many can cause issues. There are toys out on the market that help clean teeth as well.

I think you're right that you'll probably need to go ahead and get her teeth cleaned, but if she also won't let you brush at home, you can buy mint flavored treats and they also have doggie breath mints. Though I really think she'll also need the cleaning.

good luck to you and your pooch!
