Question regarding a cats vs. a dogs nutrition. What are the similarities...

...and what are the differences? Ok so I have done a lot of research into feline nutrition. My cats only eat Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul dry food (1/2 c. 1x daily) and Wellness canned food (1/4 can 2x daily). I know some may not completely agree with this because I left dry food in the mix but personally it was a money issue, and convience issue. Now I am thinking about getting a dog, and am thinking I would feed Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul dry food and probably EVO canned food...question is, is it just as important for a dog to have canned food as for a cat and should the ingredients be similar to those in a healthy cat food or are dog's nutrition completely different? (I know I can't feed cat food to a dog or vice versa). Also, I know this may make it difficult but I have no idea what type of dog I may get I am just going to go to a shelter and pick one I like...so I don't know how much that affects the answer to this question.
