Why is my silky terrier using the bathroom in the house during the night and
she's almost 4 years old? My silky terrier is almost 4 years old. We have had a "doggie door" for her that we recently had to close up because she kept chasing my grandfather's chickens. She is no longer allowed to go out on her own during the day/night. Instead I have a run that she goes on throughout the day. She will bathe in the sun for a couple of hours and when she is ready, she comes in. About 50% of the time, she will walk right in and pee on the carpet after she was out for a while. At night, I let her out one final time before bed. She goes to sleep for what I think is all night, only to find a wet spot during the night or poop on the floor. I am frustrated and don't know what to do to train her. She never goes to the door to whimper that she has to go out. Instead, I frequently let her out during the day, which still doesn't always work. She is 4 and shouldn't have issues anymore with housebreaking her. Any suggestions would be welcomed at this point!!

Is the outside just dirt or sand, or does it have grass?
If it doesn't have grass then your dog is doing necessities on the rug because a rug feels a LOT like grass to dogs, and it's only their natural instinct to do their business on it.
If there is grass and your dog spends a lot of time outside, then maybe she prefers to pee inside since she's outside almost always. Dogs like being in cave-like areas, like your house, which has walls on all sides and a roof, so it's like a cave to them.
You can buy doggie pampers to put on the floor. They are like rugs made out of pamper material which are like a dog's litterbox. Put them on the places where your dog usually pees and watch her. Have treats ready for this.
As SOON as she finishes peeing, give her a treat and LOTS of praise.
Change the pamper regularly. Keep on congratulating her with treats and praise until she gets that she has to pee there, and your problem is solved!
Good luck!
