Ho, I already have a question out relating to pet food about now I'm completely disgusted with brand such as Iams, Hills Science Plan, Riyal Canin and of course supermarket shop branded cat food. Iams cruelty to animals stunned me, and food contains only 25% and says contains EC approved colourants!!! talk about false advertising! Don't be blinded by the fact high priced food means better.
I was looking at Applaws and Purely from Pets At Home. I've emailed PAH to ask whether they test on animals and no reply yet. Can anyone fromthe UK recommend me a brand with no animal testing. And where to buy please? I can't live with myself knowing I'm putting moneyn in the pockets of cruel experimenters. Please help. Ps, go look up iams cruelty report it's shocking. I feel sorry for kitty although he shows no sign of anquish, he's doing brilliantly. I feel guilty for swapping food so please help me with this one!! Thank u all xxx the very best, myself and kitty x |

I agree with the others - your question is laughable.
I would never use a cat food that WAS NOT tested on cats. How do you think they test cat food - feed it to monkeys? Do you think they do like they used to do when testing cosmetics and spray the foods in the cat's face? If a cat food is not tested on cats - meaning that cats are fed the food and their health is closely monitored for proper grown and coat condition and such - no one would want to feed the food to a cat. If someone marketed a cat food that has not been tested on cats, who would want to by it? You rant about the bad foods but some of them are excellent foods. I'm trying to think of a way to explain to you that it is appropriate - actually mandatory - that cat food be tested on cats and I'm not coming up with just who to put it to you---- Your question is idiotic. You say that "the food contains only 25%" -- 25 percent of what??? You rail against the use of approved colorants - that means they have been tested and found to not be dangerous. You said you emailed PAH - they are probably also having a good laugh at you asking if their food is tested on animals. I bet they are passing your email around to everyone at the company. "Hey, look that this email. They want a cat food that is not tested on animals. No, really, that's what they said. This is a keeper. I'll forward it to everyone and I'll put a copy on the bulletin board" Okay, one last try -- cat food MUST BE TESTED on cats before it can be sold. Only after the food is shown to provide the correct nutrients for cats can it be sold. Here in the USA there are official testing procedures as defined by the AAFCP - Association Of American Feed Control Officials Here's what a bag of food we use says "AAFCP Statment: Animal testing using AAFCP procedures substantiate that this food provides compete and balanced nutrition for maintenance of adult cats." I would never buy a cat food that does not have that statement. A cat food has to be tested on cats. The cats would be given a through physical and then they would be fed the food to be tested. The cat's physical condition and their behavior would be monitored closely to determine if the food was causing any problems and whether it was providing the proper nutrients. If you can't understand that, I suggest you get rid of your cats because I fear for their safety in the home of someone who is looking for cat food which is not tested on animals. Ridiculous! |

I am in the US, I know we don't have premium brands in common - only the crappy ones for some reason! I looked at this UK site though and this one sounds promising. It doesn't say anything about animal testing but does say the animals used for the food were humanely slaughtered. That's a good sign.
http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/canned_cat_food_pouches/hermanns_organic_cat_food/104033#composition They seem to have only three varieties and one is fish. I wonder why the UK cat foods are so fish-heavy? Yes, I did read about Iams and saw a video too. The food isn't good in any case - vitamin-fortified cornmeal. |

Iams was one of the greatest offenders during the last pet food crisis we had. For a kibble I like Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul. Evo chicken & turkey gets my vote for can.

hi! i have a cat myself and i use iams! my dog even eats it. it has good things for your pet to. a lot of people go to the stores and ask the people who work there what they recommend { at your local pet store }
i like going to pets"s"mart for my pets. also wellness is a good brand that i know cats love. going to a pet store is much better than a grocery store if you want cat food. or you can look for canned food { cats most likely love it } as long as you see your cat eats it daily and it's healthy, it's good. ps: kibbles and friskes are also a good brands! good luck and hope i help! |
