my cat.s health has deteriorated fast, help please?

okay so at first we thought it was age, since she.s like 12 or so years old. but it all happened within a week, so we.re wondering if she has an illness

she used to be a fatty, weighing in at around 10-12 pounds. within around two weeks she.s down to 8 pounds. she rarely eats anymore. she used to go bonkers when mom ate string cheese && cry for some, but now she doesn.t even look at us when we eat it. i started giving her wet food since apparently it.s supposed to be better for her. i.m nervous that this could be the cause so i stopped, but she wouldn.t eat any dry food. she.ll only eat friskies indoor treats for some reason.

she also has a lot of leg pain && weakness. she doesn.t like when we hold her anymore because it hurts her legs. she doesn.t jump on anything, && she.s always laying down

so basically, it started with joint pain months ago, like something old cats go through, then she stopped eating as much && rarely walks around. are there any obvious cat problems that have these symptoms? why did it all happen so quickly? i.m so scared. she.s been my best friend since i was three && a half. i.m so scared of losing her. i don.t know what to do. we.re going to take her to the vet, but i want to know now. please help me, && give me any tips to do for her in the meantime.

my cat was doing the same things and i have 2 other cats as well and i noticed that but my mom said hes fine but i didn't belive it he looked not happy for a really long time and then one morning he started to meow alot and he never meows and he looked rly sick so we brought him to the vet and (dont laugh at me but it apparently does exist for cats)a uper respiratory infection and he had to go on an anti biotic and the veterinarian said that if we would of waited any longer he could have been extreamly sick and it took him about 2 weeks on the anti biotic to make him better but the vet cost was 300 dollars it was worth it and even if he wasn't sick it made us all feel good that we all would no hes fine

Only your vet can tell you whether your cat has arthritis, disease, or both. The important thing is that you are taking her to the vet without unnecessary delay. It's hard to see your little buddy not feeling well, I know. Your vet probably asked you, but is she peeing like usual? If not, you need to have her seen right away. Most likely though, I bet she's got arthritis. My Maine Coon has it in his hips, and he behaves a lot like what you are describing. Our pets get old and achey, just like people do. I've experienced the picky eating business with him as well (he's 13). But you are right to be concerned since her weight loss happened so fast. The good news is your vet can answer your questions and make your kitty more comfortable. Good Luck.

well, she is reaching the age where things can come upon her suddenly, such arthritis. Like any animal in pain, they go off their food and normal activity. If the pain can be alleviated by the vet, she may continue to carry on with normal life for quite a while yet.

I lost my seven year old cat two years ago very suddenly. He was normally very loving and got along well with my other two cats and dogs. One night he was at the foot of our bed and hissed at another cat who jumped up, which was really out of character for him. The next day, he looked lethargic, and as the day went on his eyes began to glaze a bit and i thought he had the flu. But later into the evening he laid down, and then started to drag himself around with his front legs. He was convulsing by the time I bundled him up to take him to the vet, and passed away there.

I truly hope that it is something that is treatable for your kitty, such as joint pain, and that when his time finally comes, it is peaceful and he is with the people he loves.

Common sense says take her to the vet for an evaluation.

The vet can check right there if it's diabetic related--has she been drinking tons of water too? He can also check for how the organs are functioning, which 90% of the time gives you a solid diagnosis and can get your cat treated for what's wrong. The longer you wait, the smaller the window of opportunity becomes to help the cat.

If you're so scared, get her in tomorrow.
