why do they run away? doesn't that go against the whole working as a pack and keeping together thing that even a maltese or a pekingese can understand? a dog that runs away and doesn't come back and ignores its masters command sounds like a rogue dog that would be an absolutely useless quasi-wolf.
i understand that, but what kind of pack animal (and i am stressing the fact that siberians are in terms of appearance, intelligence and pack structure similar to wolves) disobey its alpha??? that would come with huge repercussions if it were in the wild in a pack so......... czechoslovakian wolfdog for example is more closely related to the wolf than a poodle. worrrdddd |

em, actually, siberian huskys arent any more closely related to wolfs then any other domestic dog, they were just bred over the years to look similar because of where they're from but DNA testing has shown the dog is no closer then any other domestic breed, like the chihuahua! So I don't know what your talkin bout with the running away thing though... eh... get a trainer?

Huskies, while intelligent dogs, were originally bred to be sled dogs, and that means that they were bred to RUN (and run and run). More importantly, they were bred to think on their own. Huskies don't run away because they are disloyal pack members. They run just because it's the reason they exist, and because they have their own ideas about where they want to go.

There isn't anything I can't already say that what Loki hasn't' already said, but I can add this:
The Czech Wolfdog IS a wolf dog. It's a product of a wolf being bred to a domestic dog. The Husky is a domestic dog one of which has no known wolf lineage whatsoever. If you've ever been around a a full wolf, whether being fortunate enough to encounter one in the wild, being on an outdoor trek with a owner of wolves or being at a zoo/rehab facility, you will see that wolves naturally run away from anyone who is not of their pack. Wolves have a fight or flight response, this is not bred out of them or 'trained' out of them. This is IN them. Dogs differ in that it HAS been bred out of them through domestication. Wolves cannot be domesticated. I'm interested in what ways you feel that a wolf resembles a Siberian? I think if Loki and I compared our dogs (her Sibes and my wolves) we'd not find that many similarities in our animals. If her dogs were much like wolves, she'd have no luck in what she does. |

Wolfs instincts tell them to moe forward, not matter hat they do they have instinct telling them to go. I have a husky border collie mix and she is always on the run if shes not tied out back. Even at the park i Have to keep her on a leash or she'll be one. I love my dog but i hate what she does and how she acts. I Have the same problem. Also, i don't hink they have much respect for you, along with me too. I've been trying to gain respect from my dog but nothing seems to work. She acts like shes my friend but when shes runnnig she acts like she doesnt even know us. I HATE IT

Siberians have a high prey drive so if they see something they like they are going to go after it, it's just that their instincts are much more powerful then their owner's call

We're not talking about the Czech Wolf Dog. We're talking about Siberians, who have not been closely related to wolves for thousands of years.
Their appearance has more to do with their function and their native climate than any relationship to a wolf. They are independent thinkers. They were not bred to respond to human commands, but to make decisions for themselves. If you've ever run a sled dog team, you understand why this is important. No alpha wolf has ever said to a subordinate -- hey! come back here! -- when that subordinate wandered off. That is not the way wild packs function. They are social groups that exist in order to make hunting and raising young easier. They don't follow the alpha's orders like little soldiers in a line. Why should a Siberian follow yours? Siberians are pack-oriented in the respect that they like company, work well in a team, and have a finely tuned sense of social structure. It does not mean they obey a "king". Hope this makes sense. |

Siberian huskies aren't any closer related to the wolf than a poodle. More recent breeds, such as Czechoslovakian wolfdogs and Saarloos wolfhounds, are closer related to wolves, but huskies aren't. They have a strong prey drive and are very independent and stubborn, which is why they almost never come when called if off leash in an unfenced area.
