First and foremost, I am 23 years old. I have owned many dogs my entire life, as well as cats, and birds. It has taken me 23 years to develop this view. I am not bias, and have much experience with dogs and cats.Cats make little to no noise at all. Purring is the most common but you can't hear that unless they are in your lap and it's really not an offensive sound. They will chirp while playing or while watching birds outside. Mewwing is the main communication sound. All three of these sounds are very low in volume, non piercing, and done for a reason. Additionally, their claws are retractable, so you never hear them walking around.A dog will bark and howl at odd noises, the wind, other people, other dogs, critters outside, when it's alone, when it's bored, and even bark at you if it forgot what you looked like for 5 minutes. All dog barks are different, but they all have three common properties, they are loud, piercing, and you can hear them from blocks away. The nails of a dog are very hard and click and tap on wood and tile floors. Cats have little to no odor. Their saliva acts as a fairly decent cleanser and the spikes on their tongue help cleanse their fur. A cat enjoys keeping itself clean. As a matter of fact, our cat actually spells like our laundry detergent, not sure how that worked out.Dogs are not clean. Dogs will find the dead carcass of a rodent or reptile in the yard and roll in it. Dogs will also gladly eat shit, and root around in garbage for something that smells good to them. Dogs also smell even worse when they get "cooked up" after being outside for a while. Dogs have no sense of self-cleansing except for the licking of their package and ass. And quite usually thats very neurotic and disgusting. Washing a dog does some good for roughly a day. And not having a dog door can somewhat prolong this period, but this also depends on the type of dog. Cats are far more coordinated and attuned to balance. They have a fondness for heights, and depending on if they are declawed, they will reach places you previously thought were unreachable. Dogs have a hard time completing such a simple task of walking backward. They also can't keep their balance on tile and hardwood floors. Certain breeds are also prone to severe back problems if allowed to jump.Cats are cleanly animals, and do not wish to play, sleep, or eat in the same area as where they piss and shit. They prefer a litter box, or can even be trained to use the toilet. Dogs are not bothered too much by piss and shit. They will mark their territory, and will piss and shit on your carpet and couch. Some dogs will piss if they get startled or scared, this is especially nice if they are on the couch. Cats do not pose any real danger to adults pr children. Scratching and biting will cause minimal damage. And if the cat is declawed, they are relatively harmless. To you AND your furniture. It's uncommon for a cat to just suddenly snap on some one and maul them.Dogs are capable and have been known to dismember and severely injure adults and children. Their jaws can wide enough to fit some ones head, and the canus species have some of the strongest bite pressure around. There are countless reports or dogs just snapping out of nowhere and mauling some one. Some will say this is provoked. But there is no excuse for the toddlers that are just playing when a dog crushes their skull. One gripe I hear a lot about cats is that they go to the bathroom in a box. This argument doesn't hold much water. A cat will only go in his litter box. A decent covered litter box doesn't have much, if any, odor if cleaned on a regular basis (weekly).A dog will relieve himself anywhere in your home if it can't get out. But, what is so much better about a dog going to the bathroom in the yard? Where their urine can ruin plants and feces can litter your yard and become hidden in the grass only for you to find with your shoe or barefoot. And eventually run over with the lawnmower and spread feces and stench even further. I understand that some dogs serve a VERY important purpose. Dogs in law and drug enforcement, as well as assisted living play a crucial role in society. I have tried to make this writing reasonable, intelligent, and not some ignorant spout of "Dogs suck! Cats rule!". Like I said in the beginning, I have had both cats and dogs my whole life, and I have just now come to this conclusion about dogs. So I have extensive experience with both species. That being said, please, someone tell me why so many people want stupid, dependent, dirty, smelly, and potentially dangerous animals in their homes and around their families. I never said anyone needed to think like I did. I am perfectly aware that opinions vary, and difference is what makes the world go round, but seriously people, don't resort to those cliches. Read all my points and dispute them. That's the whole point of argument.Jason Deejay - Name calling is immature and debunks any credibility you may have had.Your comment regarding my "type" being lazy is pretty lame and poorly thought out. I have owned dogs & cats longer than you have been alive...
