I have a 6 month Shih Tzu/Chihuahua pup and I've been trying to potty train him the last 3 months. My parents aren't helping me at all and I'm in my last year of high school. He has a kennel and he can last through the whole night without going potty, but during the day he goes potty randomly in the house without giving any warning of what he is going to do. He'll just be walking around and all of a sudden he'll squat and pee, but if he goes potty outside, he'll sniff and run around in circles first before he goes. Also my dog goes potty at random times even though I have a schedule for him. He potties when he wakes up and then he eats, and I've read that he should go potty around 30 minutes after he eats, but he goes 2-4 hours later. Or he potties and an hour later he pees again in the house even though he didn't drink any water. Everyday he potties at different times, even though I take him outside at the same time. While I'm at school, my dad would put my dog outside for a couple hours which doesn't help at all because he just potties all over the yard instead of the one place we designated for him.Ok so my questions are why does my dog pee at random intervals and how can I make him follow a schedule? How can I make him go potty at one place instead of all over the yard? Also is there a way that he can give me a signal that he needs to go potty instead of just spontaneously squatting on the ground?

It works best if you keep him in the kennel during the day too. Dogs normally won't potty where they sleep. But someone would have to be there to take him out every 2 to 3 hours, then put him right back in once he potties. Or you could try putting his kennel in a small enclosed area with a potty pad a few feet from the kennel, so that when he has to go during the day when you're not there, he may learn to get out of his kennel and go on the pad. Just don't give him a whole lot of wandering room or else he will do it all over the place. It takes lots of patience and time.
